![]() and no, I didn't go out of my way to match the facing- all the images I found matched the emoticon usage, interestingly enough, which does seem to confirm there being an expected interpretation. The first one is the right-facing one (described above) while the following three are representations of the left-facing one described in this post. Rather than continue attempting to awkwardly describe the nuances, I've attached some images below as real life representations of the expressions being mimicked. Rather, its usage seems to be less 'looking away from something embarrassing' (as the right-facing one does look away from the sentence/sentiment being expressed) and more a matter of looking askew at the preceding topic. I'm not sure how pervasively the distinction is marked, but I've noticed (and used) the left-facing emoticon to express that sentiment, so it seems to actually express a different meaning than the right-facing one I described above. In that usage, it's more an acknowledgement of an awkward situation. In Zemun's usage, it means more "Oh come on, you and I both know the answer to that." or "well, if you have to ask." or "is there really any difference?" I should really have done a better job of correlating my explanation to the actual topic, huh?
